Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
At a very critical time for God’s people, Ezra the scribe called for a fast by the people. They were leaving captivity to go back to Judah to begin the process of rebuilding the temple of God. They had hundreds of miles before them with dangers from many sources along the way. Instead of trusting in himself, Ezra turns to God and asks God for a right way for them, their children and their possessions.
As we move forward in the year of intentional increase, it is important that we ask God for a right way for us. If we follow the path that God sets, we will be in the position to receive God’s abundant blessings. The Bible says in Psalm 65:11, “Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.” Walking with God is the first step in intentional increase.
Everyone is asked to fast from January 30 until February 5, 2016 as the Lord directs. As we fast, we need to ask God for a right way for us, for our families and our possessions.
In addition to fasting, everyone is encouraged to spend time normally devoted to eating to studying and meditating in God’s Word. We are believing God and we want to get His Word in our spirits in order that it might produce the results God purposes for our lives.
